Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah is an American performer and actress. The role of Queen Latifah on television, film as well as music has earned her several accolades. They include the Golden Globe Award two Screen Actors Guild Awards Two Image Awards A Grammy Award In addition, she has six Grammy Nominations An Emmy Award Nomination and an Academy Award. Queen Latifah was born in Newark, New Jersey. The daughter is Rita Owens, Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. Latifah's parents separated when she was 10 years old. Latifah was a student at the Catholic school in Newark, NJ and was educated in the Baptist Church. Latifah means gentle and very generous. Her cousin gave it to her when she was aged eight. Latifah is a 5'10" tall forward on the team at her high school, was always a tall girl. She sang the song Home from The Wiz at a high-school play. Latifah was the first to begin beatboxing for Ladies Fresh. Latifah is among the first members of the Flavor Unit, which was at that time a collective made up of DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the 45 King, made a recording of Queen Latifah's Princess of the Posse rap. He emailed the recorded to Yo! MTV Raps the Fab Five Freddy. The single caught the eye of Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who has signed Latifah and, in 1988, released her debut single Wrath of My Madness.
